Railway transport is an important part of transport systems, it is also a strategic sector and plays a vital role in the economy of many countries. The railway network spans over 1.3 million kilometers worldwide. Rail transportation primarily consist of freight and passenger service. Compared to road transport, rail transport creates less pollution in mass passenger transportation and it is a more efficient transport mode in term of energy consumption.

The increasing success of road and air transport is resulting imbalance between modes of transport and decreasing the share of rail transport in the last two decades. On the other hand, to make the rail transport more attractive, the technological advances like the high-speed train,  increase the rail transport share. Additionally, high efficiency diesel, diesel-electric, cable- electric, magnetic locomotives, lighter passenger wagons and cargo wagons are developed and produced as a result of improvement needs in the railway industry. Significant changes in railway transport is taking place by the restructuring of the railway industry.

Technological developments in the locomotives, wagons, rails, signaling and energy means can be achieved by development in design, material, electrical, electronical and also in production steps. Locomotive and wagon materials are changing from thick steel materials to higher strength steels with thinner sections and also use of aluminum alloys and stainless steels  increase due to high speed trains and trams. Welded production of trains and trams are becoming automated or robotized increasingly. For these reasons, welding robots, welding machines and welding consumables must meet the production requirements such as high welding speed, ease of use, robustness, defect-free and high strength of welds.

Mechanical properties and welding performance of Magmaweld's welding consumables and technologies of welding machines have been developed in accordance with the needs of railway industry, in order to provide the required quality and performance from the welds. Welding machines with inverter technology, their pulse and double pulse welding options are used to reduce the heat input in the welding of stainless, aluminum, coated steel and high strength steels in high speed train or tram production. Conventional welding machines muchly used for high penetration and high deposition rate in welding of  thicker materials, which are used in locomotive and cargo wagons. Gas metal arc (MIG/MAG) welding wires, submerged arc welding fluxes and wires have been developed to have high strength and high crack resistance in bogie manufacturing, liquid tank wagon, locomotives, cargo wagons where thick materials are mainly used.
Weld joint properation and welding safety are very important in the railway industry. Magmaweld’s ancillary products like carbon electrode, electrode drying oven, cutting and grinding wheels are designed and produced to perform joint and job preparation perfectly. Solarmatic-darkening welding helmets provide clear vision of arc and molten bath, this makes the welder to control the weld bead easily. Safety garments, gloves, aprons have highest level of protection for the welders in railway industry, where production is an intensively done by welding.

Welding consumables, welding machines, welding auxiliary materials and safety products of Magmaweld are produced and approved in accordance with the production, maintenance and repair welds of the railway industry. Magmaweld has been serving the railway industry for more than 60 years with this wide product range.
